What are the top 3 selling European cars right now?

European brands dominate the global automobile market. While there is a Toyota, Honda and Hyundai with a global presence, American brands like Chevrolet and Nissan are making their way into various international markets, yet it is the likes of Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Renault, and Volvo among a few others that have truly been giants of a brand. We aren’t mentioning Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini because of their limited or niche target audience.

When we talk about the top three selling European cars right now, it is necessary to segregate the markets. The stats are different for the UK, they change when you check out rest of Europe and will be different in every specific member country of the EU. When you move stateside, the numbers change again and there is little to show any parity among them all. If you check out the top auto brands in the US purely in terms of sales, then the only European brand you would find is Volkswagen. But the company has plenty of models that give other brands a run for their money.

Here are the top 3 selling European cars right now in the UK.

  • Vauxhall Corsa is undoubtedly the most popular car right now. It recorded 92,077 registrations in 2015. It is a rather reasonable model, the Vauxhall Corsa 1.4, there’s fuel efficiency and the overall design has impressed many, as is obvious from the sales figures.
  • Volkswagen Golf with 73,409 registrations in 2015 is the second bestselling European car. The car has been a bestseller for more than half a decade now and the model itself is a brand that dates back more than four decades.
  • Volkswagen Polo has recorded 54,900 registrations in 2015, just in the UK. It is one of the niftiest and yet among the most comfortable of cars. With an array of engines to choose from and plenty of optional features, the Polo is indeed cool.

Strangely but interestingly, the bestselling car in the UK right now is not a European brand. The undisputed winner is Ford Fiesta with 133,434 registrations in 2015. The third and the fifth place as well go to American brands, the Ford Focus with 83,816 registrations in 2015 and Nissan Qashqai with 60,814 registrations in 2015.

  • Stateside, there is hardly any competition for the reigning champs, ala Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. Ford Fusion is a relatively distant sixth on the list.
  • The only European car featuring on the top-twenty list in the United States is Volkswagen Jetta at the seventeenth spot.
